Redefining Community

As a part of Horizon, you can help make a positive impact in lives all over our community adn world. We generally do an IMPACT project each month. Sometimes it is a project that our entire group gets involved with together. Sometimes there are several impact projects throughout the month being done by our various community gatherings.

Some previous impact projects were:

+ Supporting the efforts of NATIONAL RECOVERY MONTH each September by contirbuting funds, supplying bottled water for the event, and lending a helping hand to setting up at Hugh McRae Park for the Recovery Day Celebration. There are many people in our area that struggle with substance abuse, and many households have felt the pain of a family member's battle with drugs or alcohol. The Recovery Day Celebration brings people that offer help and hope together with those who might need it.

+ Preparing meals for hungry people. When was the last time you had something to eat? That question challenged us deeply when we realized that there are people right here in our community that haven't eaten in a while. How long is a while? A while is just longer than me.

+ Several of us drove out into Wilmington and connected with some of the homeless folks in our area--and brought them to join us in an International Christmas Dinner. Several of the men and one woman returned to take part together in a Christmas Eve Communion service. Did you know that people who have a roof over their heads, a little money in their pockets and something to eat for tomorrow already have more than millions of others the world over?

We continue to look for ways that we can be a blessing in our area by allowing God to take our hearts and give them away to others...
